Part-time Chef at The Nest Wirral
Part-Time Chef – Daytime Hours
Hours: 15–24 hours per week
Shifts: Predominantly daytime, between 8:30am – 4:30pm, including weekends
Pay: Hourly rate starting at National Minimum Wage, reflective of experience and capability
About The Nest
The Nest is a family-owned, independent daytime bistro café located on Station Road in Thurstaston, Wirral. We are a popular brunch destination, known for using fresh, local produce and delivering high-quality food that keeps our customers coming back.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we develop a new menu, with opportunities to take the lead on seasonal specials and contribute creatively as the business continues to grow. There is also additional paid opportunity to cater for private events outside of standard service hours.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced and capable Part-Time Chef to join our kitchen team. This role is well suited to someone who can work confidently and autonomously, fitting in with our team.
You will be responsible for:

Preparing and cooking dishes in line with established recipes, presentation standards, and service expectations

Managing food production during service to ensure timely delivery of high-quality meals

Contributing to the creation and development of seasonal specials and new menu items, maintaining consistency in taste and presentation

Maintaining excellent food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene standards in line with current regulations

Demonstrating competence in completing all required regulatory paperwork

Completing prep, deep cleaning, equipment breakdowns, and kitchen organisation during quieter periods

Supporting the smooth running of the kitchen by assisting with stock monitoring and basic ordering

Ensuring all kitchen equipment is used correctly, maintained, and operated safely

Following opening and closing procedures accurately, including reporting to management when required

Working collaboratively with front-of-house staff to support an excellent customer experience during service
About You
You will:

Have proven experience working in a professional kitchen environment
-
Be confident working independently and taking responsibility for your section and output

Demonstrate strong organisational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
-
Be proactive, reliable, and use time effectively without the need for close supervision
-
Have a positive, professional attitude and work well as part of a small team
-
Be comfortable taking guidance from and working with the Head Chef
-
Take pride in maintaining high standards across food quality, cleanliness, and service
-
Relevant culinary qualifications or certifications are preferred but not essential. Supervisory experience is advantageous but not required for the right candidate.
